A New Nation in the Making

The Republic of South Sudan became an independent state on July 9, 2011 following a referendum that passed with 98.3% of the vote.

Training and capacity building are now intensively underway in many sectors, including the field of medicine.

The Maine-based non-profit organization Aserela has partnered with the Division of Global Health and Human Rights of Massachusetts General Hospital to implement a pioneering new training program for frontline healthcare workers.

This promotional reel was filmed in May of 2012 in several communities around the River Kit.



Part of the soundtrack for this film is an original composition by the very talented Joseph Okot, playing the adungu. His complete performance may be viewed in the video that follows below.
